Sportsmanship, Sunshine and Spills
What a magnificent winter’s day on the Gold Coast in Australia! Perfect for a world championship event.
When we started setting up, we realised that weren’t alone… these kangaroos were in the middle of our criterium track and the skyscrapers in the photo show how close to the beach we are.
Michal Kulka from the Czech Republic won the 10km Men’s Senior title and Wenda Zuiddam from The Netherlands won the Female Senior title.
A funky retro caravan cafe called Bruce The Foodtruck offered refreshments.
The relay races in the afternoon offered sportsmanship and a couple of spills. Thankfully Vincent Gooiker was not seriously hurt in this tumble and his Dutch team went on to claim the second place in the male relay. The Czech team comprising Michal Kulka, Tomas Pelc and Marek Kadlec jumped for joy after their victory.
Whilst not as experienced as the Europeans in relays, the Aussie teams enjoyed the opportunity to race the world’s best.
